Raphael Oberman

My name is Raphaël Oberman, I am a student at the Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux.I live between Paris and Brussels, cities where I used to reside and where i’ve studied in several art schools . I carry  From Belgium the influence of early comics; their colors and the way they tell stories through drawing.Removed from their narrative function, these drawings and signs sometimes appear enlarged and set against the full scale of the canvas .In my practice, I am always surrounded by dozens of materials: Chinese ink or homemade inks, household solvents, pigment powders and more traditional technics. Anything that can stain. One area may shine more brightly than another, prompting a friend to ask me : “Is there sand in your painting? It feels grainy here.”The variety of materials and organic shapes sparks curiosity and wonder. My work seeks to open a space for spirituality and imagination; by leaving room for interpretation, I give viewers the freedom to project new visions onto my works.
