Estébane Sachot
My name is Estébane Sachot, and I come from a small village perfectly located between France, Germany, and Switzerland. The images I work with are images that come back to me and thus become memorable. These selected images are made present again through painting, but also because they signal popular stories that repeat themselves perpetually. In a continuous, almost sterile search for balance, my work oscillates between large images that have total symbolism and which end up no longer communicating anything and more literal, almost abstract symbols which, in their lack of particular meaning, end up becoming matrices and signifying everything. Thus, these subjects, as superficially important as they are illusory insignificant, adhere to a desire for de-hierarchization when brought together. In fact, my paintings are conceived as an interdependent series of subjects linked by a precise but sometimes enigmatic logic; poignant figures, naive landscapes, and sterile logos all end up forming an ambiguously conceptual but global imagery.
